Funghi diseases
Base rots
Characteristics:
This disease is very common in vegetables and ornamental flowers, and is caused by various fungi present in the ground. The roots are affected, together with the joint between the roots and the trunk (root collar) and the base of the stem.
Symptoms:
For herbaceous plants, the clearest symptoms are the quick withering and drying of the aerial part of the plants, which often fold over and come apart from the earth very easily. The base of the stem and roots take on a brown colour and rot completely. Where trees and shrubs are attacked, the foliage can be seen to generally and progressively yellow and weaken, with leaves that fall.
Defence:
Defence is efficient if carried out beforehand, or as soon as symptoms appear. It is important not to overwater and, in gardens, arrange drainage if the land is particularly compact. We recommend repeating 2 or 3 treatments, 2 weeks apart, for herbaceous plants. If the attack is already well underway, the plants affected must be removed and destroyed. For stem rot, or in the event of re-invasions, the land can be preventatively disinfected.
