Insects in the green
Carpocapsa
Characteristics:
The insects that are, quite rightly, the most feared by fruit farmers, are without a doubt the carpophagus, namely those that attack the fruit directly. In fact, whilst we can overcome the presence of leaf-removing caterpillars without serious consequences, or tolerate a summer aphid attack, the damage caused by the various cydia is always immediate and irreparable.
One of the most common and well-known species, is the carpocapsa, the apple and pear worm often responsible for the serious damage that can be seen close to harvest, when it is then too late to intervene. The Carpocapsa is a ‘historic' insect whose presence has been noted since Roman times. Always associated with cultivate pomaceae, it can be considered a key enemy, and therefore a priority for defence. In recent years, the difficulty in fighting these has increased following the appearance of populations that are resistant to various insecticides. The resistance mechanism can be considered a self-defence mechanism implemented by the insects and other organisms towards the means used by man to fight them.
Since the early 1950s and up until today, alongside the discovery of new insecticides and fungicides, various phenomena of resistance has been noted, that have required changes in the defence strategies, and made it necessary to search for new active ingredients.
