Codling moths

Characteristics:
Insect that hibernates as a mature larvae in diapause. In southern regions, 3 generations are completed per year:
- 1st generation end April, second half of May until the first half of June;
- 2nd generation in July;
- 3rd generation in August.

Vegetable organs subject to attack:
Fruits.

Symptoms:
The larvae penetrate in the fruits through the calicin cavity or in any other point, and they head for the seeds on which they feed. Each fruit houses just one larva. The attack is marked by the shavings coming out from the hole of larva entrance.

Damage:
Damage is serious. Fruits infested at the start of the development (walnut) are lost. Those close to ripening end up falling. The fruits presenting traces of healing of an initial attack.
