Funghi diseases
Grey mould (botrytis)
Characteristics:
This is a parasite that constitutes a potential danger for a great many crops, both trees and grasses. Cool and humid climates and abundant watering provide the ideal conditions for the development of this family of pathogen fungi.
Symptoms:
Shoots, buds and young leaves are the first to be attacked. A mould similar to grey powder appears, and the affected tissues rot quickly. Brownish marks are first seen on developed flowers and leaves, followed by the typical grey mould. In just a short space of time, the plant rots and dries out. Bulbs taken from the ground can also be attacked with similar symptoms. The vine is particularly subject to this disease, whose leaves can be attacked (light colour marks that then turn brown-leather), the shoots, but most often the bunches. The grapes show increasingly extended marks that causes a soft rot, then a grey mould felt that spreads quickly.
Defence:
Defence is efficient if carried out beforehand, or as soon as symptoms appear. If attacks are already in an advanced phase, the plants should be removed, or at least the affected parts, in order to decrease contagion. For potted plants, it is important to limit watering, and particularly during the autumn-winter.
