Funghi diseases
Sclerotinia
Characteristics:
This disease affects many different vegetable and floral ornamental plants, with different symptoms depending on the species. Attacks are most serious in spring/summer.
Symptoms:
The base of the stem first appears to swell with a loss of colour, and later rots and dries out, extending to the leaves. In high environmental humidity, the rotting areas cover with whitish mould and clear black dots.
Defence:
Defence is efficient if carried out beforehand, or as soon as symptoms appear. If the attack is already well underway, the plants affected must be removed and destroyed.
