Cherry and olive flies

Characteristics:
Two flies that are particularly damaging in our gardens, are the cherry fly and olive fly. The larvae of the first feed from the flesh of cherries, digging tunnels through to the stone.

Symptoms:
Softening of the flesh and rotting of the fruit. The larvae of the olive fly causes similar damage: attacks by this parasite are helped by warm, humid climates.
Softening of the flesh and rotting of the fruit. Presence of typical holes in the skin caused by the adult females through which they lay their eggs and suck the juice that comes out of the flesh.

Defence:
Best to carry out preventative treatments or intervene as soon as the parasites appear.
