Crawling insects
Earwigs
Characteristics:
Earwigs are very common insects present in very different habitats… Their diet consists of other small insects, as well as vegetables organs such as buds, pollen, parts of flowers (they are often a problem in greenhouse flower cultivations). They generally prefer humid environments, and are often found under trunks and bark, but also hide within flowers (often roses), under stones, in wall fissures, etc. The ‘pincers', or the abdominal cerci, mainly serve to hold the female during mating (in fact, they are more developed in the male), but are also useful to 'dissuade' possible aggressors due to their impressive and threatening appearance. Despite the many stories and legends that surround it, these insects are absolutely innocuous to man.
