Insects in the green
Moths / Vine leaf hoppers
Characteristics:
Various different leaf hoppers can attack vines, causing direct damage to the leaves and shoots, and represent a feared vehicle of transmission of virosis and other diseases through their injections with which they remove the lymph.
Symptoms:
Malformations and anomalous colouring of nerves, edges or even the whole leaf, that often curl and fall. The shoots show ring suffocations above which there are characteristic swellings. Moths are lepidoptera whose first generation larvae attack the floral bunches. Subsequent generations enter in the grapes, eating the flesh.
Bunches wrapped in silky threads. Grapes shrivelled and brownish in colour, often also struck by moulds at the same time, and in particular by grey mould that can rapidly extend to the healthy parts of the bunch.
Defence:
Best to carry out preventative treatments or intervene as soon as the parasites appear.
